Grey Fox
Urocyon cinereoargenteus, Greiner Ranch, Kerr County, Texas
Weighing up to 18 lbs, the Gray Fox populations range from Canada to Mexico. The Gray Fox is a member of the Dog (Canidae) family, but is able to climb trees. The omnivore eats both plants and animals, with rodents, rabbits and birds, the preferred diet. The shy, normally nocturnal animal, communicates with scent posts, body language and a shrill bark. The fox is not dangerous, unless it has contracted rabies, which results in observable odd behavior.
