The Diamondback’s habitat is the Southwestern USA. Averaging 4’ in length, the Pit Viper rarely reaches 7’ long, weighing 15 lbs. Life expectancy is 20 years. The largest “Rattler,” killed by archer/artist, Max Greiner, Jr., on his Kerrville ranch measured just over 7’. The venomous snakes are responsible for more fatalities in the USA than any other. It is
recognized by its diamond-shaped pattern, triangular head and tail rattles. They are difficult to spot due to the color of the limestone rock environment. In the summer of 2022, the Greiner’s 6-year-old granddaughter, Lucy, got within 3’ of this camouflaged (5’ long) snake, as she played outside their studio home. The Greiners believe an angel protected Lucy that day.
